The Extra Mile: Celebrating Customer Service Week 2026 at Bumpa
For a business owner, a delayed setup, failed payment, or broken link can mean a missed sale. That’s why great customer service is more than simply answering a ticket. It’s about listening, taking ownership, and staying through until the problem is solved.
That is the standard we have set at Bumpa.
This year’s Customer Service Week theme is The Extra Mile, a reminder of the care we put into every interaction with our merchants. For us, going the extra mile is about listening, working closely with our merchants as a partner to understand their business problem, and collaborating to find the right solutions to keep their businesses growing.
To celebrate the people who bring this standard to life, we asked our Customer Success team to share what going the extra mile means to them. Here is a look behind the screen at the team dedicated to your success.
Turning Frustration into Loyalty Through Patience
Sometimes, the extra mile isn't about moving fast; it's about slowing down. It’s about recognising when a merchant is overwhelmed and choosing to stay supportive until the tension breaks.
Victor (Bumpa Expert) calls this radical patience. "Going the extra mile is what I do when de-escalating an irate merchant, or taking the time to record personalised screen-share videos just to teach a single user how to delete a collection," he explains.
For Adeola (Bumpa Specialist), this patience has directly saved businesses from walking away.
"I once assisted a merchant who was frustrated by previous interactions and initially wanted to delete her account. Instead of simply giving her the required form and ending the conversation, I assured her I would stay with her. I kept checking in until the form was completed and the issue was resolved. After everything was sorted, she told me the support she received made her change her mind. She’s still with us today."
Always There When It Counts
E-commerce never sleeps, and sometimes, neither do the problems. While our team values rest, they also know that crucial moments in a merchant's journey don't always happen during standard business hours.
Vera (Bumpa Expert) notes that the extra mile often means showing up when a merchant’s sales are on the line, even outside of work hours, to ensure they are left better than they were found.
Nobody captures the reality of this better than Henry (Bumpa Expert):
"The extra mile is not always glamorous. Sometimes it's a 9 PM message to a merchant who just launched a promo and needs a second pair of eyes. Sometimes it's chasing a merchant who went silent, not because I have to, but because I know silence rarely means they are fine. The sudden burst of joy when a store gets set up properly... those wins belong to the merchant, but I'm proud to have been there to contribute to them."
Partners in Your Business Growth
Our team doesn't just fix bugs; they build businesses. Processing a domain isn't just clicking a button, as Preston (Bumpa Specialist) puts it: "A domain is a merchant's address on the internet. Until it's live, their store isn't fully open for business." Preston makes it a point to walk merchants through features they didn't even know existed so they can sell smarter.
This partnership mindset extends to how we improve the Bumpa app itself. Peace (Lead, Bumpa, Expert) has gone as far as bringing Product Managers directly into support calls.
"A merchant’s business deserves more than a process; it deserves a partner. I once brought our Product Managers into a call so a merchant could share his vision directly with the people building the product. He left knowing that Bumpa wasn't just listening to him. We were invested in where his business was going."
When merchants win, the whole team feels it. Favour (Lead, Bumpa Expert) and Kelechi (Bumpa Expert) both note that the ultimate fulfilment comes from watching a merchant they’ve personally coached hit their sales goals, confidently run their platform, or even win industry awards.
Following Through to the End
You don't always need a grand gesture to go the extra mile. According to the rest of our dedicated specialists, exceptional customer experience is built on the quiet consistency of follow-through.
Bukola (Onboarding Specialist): "It's in creating structure where there is confusion and making sure a customer doesn't feel like they're navigating a problem alone."
Victory & Joy (Bumpa Specialists): "It means paying attention to the details, understanding the root of a problem, and finding the right solution... It's about being intentional about making a merchant's experience easier."
Blessing (Bumpa Specialist): "It means not stopping at the first solution that comes to mind... If a merchant has reached out, I want them to feel that I genuinely care about getting them the help they need."
Hope (Bumpa Specialist Lead): "Going the extra mile isn't always about doing something extraordinary; sometimes, it's about choosing to care a little more, listen a little closer, and do what we can to make someone's day a little easier."
As our Head of Merchant Success, Ifeanyi Nwoke, summarises perfectly: "At Bumpa, going the extra mile is not an exception. It is our standard and how we serve... we take ownership, care deeply, and consistently choose to go the extra mile for the merchants we serve."
To every merchant reading this: this is the team behind your tickets, your calls, and your messages. They show up for you every single day, and this week, we are incredibly proud to celebrate them.
Happy Customer Service Week from all of us at Bumpa. Here's to many more miles together! 💚
