There's nothing more frustrating than feeling like your business tools can't keep up with you. You're trying to scale, trying to stay organised, trying to actually grow — and instead you're stuck doing manual workarounds, chasing down why your ads aren't tracking, or finding out mid-campaign that your messaging credits ran out and nobody told you.

July has been quite the month.

Between the rain and the general "where did the first half of the year go?" energy, it's easy to feel like you're still catching your breath. But in-house, we’re choosing to see July as a new start. The second half of the year is wide open, and there's still everything to play for.

So whether you're restocking, planning a mid-year sale, or quietly laying the groundwork for something big, we want your business to be as ready as possible for whatever comes next.

So as we do every month, we got to work. This July, we shipped a handful of updates to make the Bumpa app a better, smoother, more organised place to run your business, fixes that help you sell more, stay on top of your operations, and spend less time doing things manually.

Here's everything that's new.

1. Create Taxes by Location

If you have a store in more than one location, perhaps you’ve got two branches in Lagos, one in Abuja and one in Port Harcourt, or even a store in Nigeria and one abroad, you already know that taxes don't work the same way everywhere. Each city, state and country all have different set of rules.

Until now, Bumpa only had one tax setup that applied across all your locations. Which meant if your tax situation was even slightly different from one branch to the next, you were doing a lot of manual work to bridge that gap, which we’ve realized is not exactly ideal.

So we decided to fix it.

Taxes on Bumpa are now tied to location, so you can set up the right tax rules for each of your stores without affecting the others. Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Create taxes per location: Setting up a new tax now lets you choose exactly which locations it applies to — one branch, a few, or all of them. If you have a store in Nigeria and one in the US, each one can have its own tax rules entirely.

  • See your taxes by location: Your Taxes page now shows your taxes organised by location instead of one flat list. Much easier to manage, especially as your business grows.

  • Tax history per product: Your recorded order history now also reflects which taxes were assigned at which location, so your records are accurate and easy to trace.

  • Airtight tax enforcement: Once you set a tax rule on your POS or record order checkout, your staff cannot remove it at the counter. Whatever you set stays in place, exactly the way you configured it.

And if you already had taxes set up before this update, nothing changes on your end. Every existing tax has been automatically assigned to all your current locations, with rates and settings carried over exactly.

Available on Bumpa web, mobile, and Bumpa POS. Make sure to update your POS mobile app to see the changes.

2. Meta Pixel — Now Tracking the Way It Should

If you've been running Instagram ads and trying to track how they're performing through the Facebook integration on your Bumpa store, you may have run into some issues with event tracking not working quite right. We heard you, and we've fixed it.

Let me explain what this means for you.

When someone visits your Bumpa store and does something like add a product to their cart, gets to checkout, or completes a purchase, those actions are called events. Your Meta Pixel is supposed to capture each of those events and send the data back to your ad account, so Facebook and Instagram know which of your ads are actually leading to sales.

When that's working correctly, your ad campaigns get smarter over time. When it's not, you're essentially spending money in the dark.

The three key events that matter most are now firing reliably:

  • Add to Cart — when a customer adds a product to their cart

  • Initiate Checkout — when they proceed to checkout

  • Purchase — when they complete an order, including the correct order value and currency

All three now track accurately, with the right values attached. So your campaigns are optimising off real data, rather than guesswork.

If you haven't connected your Meta Pixel to your Bumpa store yet, this is a great time to get it done. The setup is straightforward and once it's in, Bumpa handles the rest.

3. Personalization For Your Customers

People mostly buy from brands that make them feel seen, and sometimes the best way to make them feel seen can be as simple as a birthday discount landing in their inbox on the right day, or a promo that actually speaks to what they care about. Those small moments of "oh, they remembered me" are what turn a one-time buyer into a loyal customer.

And loyal customers? They come back, and refer people, which would keep your business growing even when things are slow.

So we added something small that could make a real difference.

You can now capture your customers' gender and birthday directly on your Bumpa dashboard. Once that information is in, you have everything you need to send them something personal like a birthday discount, a promotion that's actually relevant to them, a message that feels like it was written for them specifically.

It's a small update on the surface. But done consistently, keeping your brand top of mind for your customers in the right moments is one of the most effective things you can do for your sales.

Go update your customer records and start collecting that information today.

4. Never Run Out of Messaging Credits Again

Think about it this way. You've got an Abandoned Cart campaign running, your Back in Stock alerts are set up, maybe even a promotional blast going out to your customers this week. Everything is working out great, with your customers engaging and sales are coming in better than expected.

And then, silence because your messaging credits ran out and nobody told you.

It happens more than you'd think. And it's one of those things that's incredibly frustrating precisely because it's so preventable.

So we went and prevented it.

You can now set a low credit threshold on Bumpa. It’s basically a number that tells us "hey, if my credits drop below this point, let me know." The moment you hit that level, we'll send you an email or SMS notification before anything stops working. You top up, everything keeps running, and your customers never notice a thing.

Go set your reminder now. It takes two minutes and could save you from a very annoying interruption at the worst possible time.

And that's a wrap on July's updates.

Every single one of these fixes came from watching merchants like you run your businesses every day and asking ourselves how we can make it just a little bit easier. We hope we've done exactly that this month.
