TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms in Nigeria, with over 47 million users as of 2026. And like a lot of business owners, you're either thinking about running ads there, or you're already doing it.

Now, if you have a website with all your products on it, like a Bumpa website, one of your biggest concerns is probably this: how do you know if the money you're spending on ads is actually working? You could be spending ₦20,000, ₦50,000, even more, on TikTok ads every week, watching the views and likes roll in, and still have no real idea whether any of it is turning into actual sales.

This is exactly what TikTok Pixel fixes. And in this guide, we're going to walk you through everything, step by step, from setting up the pixel itself, to creating your TikTok Ads account, all the way to publishing your very first ad. If you're also running ads on Facebook or Instagram, we've got a step-by-step guide for setting up Meta Pixel on Bumpa too.

What is TikTok Pixel, and why do you need it?

Illustration of a quiet helper watching shop visitors, representing how TikTok Pixel works

Imagine you had a little helper standing quietly by your shop door, every single day, watching everyone who walks in after seeing your ad. This helper doesn't talk, doesn't interrupt anyone, but they're paying very close attention. Did the person just look around and leave? Did they pick something up, then put it back down? Did they actually walk to the counter and pay?

That quiet helper is exactly what TikTok Pixel is, except instead of standing in a shop, it sits on your website. Once it's set up, it watches everything that happens after someone clicks on your TikTok ad and lands on your Bumpa store.

Without that helper, TikTok can only tell you two things:

  • How many people saw your ad

  • How many people clicked on it.

So you could spend ₦50,000 on ads, get hundreds of clicks, and still have absolutely no idea if any of those people actually bought something from you

With the pixel watching, though, you get the full story. You'll know exactly which ads are bringing in real customers, and you'll finally be able to tell the difference between an ad that's working, and one that's just quietly wasting your money. And if you're not sure your ad content itself is the problem, it's worth checking why customers aren't buying from you on social media before you spend more.

What are "events" in TikTok Pixel?

Three TikTok Pixel events: add to cart, checkout, and purchase

Now that you understand what the pixel does, let's talk about "events," because you'll see this word a lot throughout this article.

An event is just a specific action someone takes on your website. So:

  • When someone adds a product to their cart, that's an event.

  • When they move to the checkout page, that's an event.

  • When they actually pay for something, that's an event too.

Every time one of these happens, your pixel notices it and reports it back to TikTok, so you can see exactly where people are dropping off, and where they're actually buying.

On a lot of platforms, you'd have to go in and set up each of these events yourself, one by one. But with Bumpa, once your pixel is connected, three important events:

  • Add to Cart

  • Initiate Checkout

  • Purchase; all start working on their own. You don't need to touch anything else.

How to set up TikTok Pixel on Bumpa (step by step)

This part is very easy even though it looks like a lot of steps, but if you ust follow along in order, you'll be done before you know it.

Step 1: Find Connected Apps on Bumpa

First, open your Bumpa dashboard. On the left side menu, look for the section called Operations, click on More, and then click Connected Apps. Once you're there, look for TikTok Pixel and select it.

Step 2: Create your TikTok Ads account

Now, open a new tab and go to ads.tiktok.com.

Click Sign Up or Get Started, and enter your business email address and a password. When it asks what kind of account you want, choose "I am an advertiser."

You'll then be asked to fill in a few details about your business:

  • Company or website name

  • Country (Nigeria)

  • Phone number

  • Industry

  • Time zone and currency

  • Roughly how much you plan to spend on ads monthly

Agree to the terms, click Confirm, and just like that, your TikTok Ads account is created. If you haven't connected your other social accounts to Bumpa yet, here's how to link your Instagram to your Bumpa store, and how to connect Facebook to Instagram if you haven't done that either.

Step 3: Generate your TikTok Pixel code

Copying the TikTok Pixel code from TikTok into Bumpa

Next, TikTok will walk you through an account setup process. When you get to the part about connecting your website, choose Manual Setup, not Shopify, even if you see that option.

From there, choose to set things up through Ads Manager, which will open something called Events Manager. TikTok might ask you to verify your identity with a code sent to your phone or email, just follow the prompt if it comes up.

Select TikTok Pixel, click Next, and give your pixel a name, something simple like "[Your Business Name] Pixel" works perfectly. Click Next again, and TikTok will generate your pixel code.

Remember to copy the entire code (the whole block of text), because you’d need it much later.

Step 4: Paste the code into Bumpa

Now, go back to that Bumpa tab you left open earlier, the one at Connected Apps → TikTok Pixel. Paste the code you just copied into the box provided, and click Install TikTok Pixel Code.

The moment that code is in, Bumpa takes care of the rest. Remember those events we talked about earlier: Add to Cart, Initiate Checkout, and Purchase? They'll all start working automatically, right away, for anyone who visits your store. You don't need to go anywhere else or set anything else up manually.

Step 5: Test that your pixel is actually working

TikTok Pixel Helper confirming the pixel is working

Before you spend a single naira on ads, you want to make sure everything is actually working. Here's how to check.

  • First, install the TikTok Pixel Helper, it's a free extension you add to your Chrome browser from the Chrome Web Store. It just takes a few seconds to install.

  • Next, go back to your TikTok Events Manager, and click on Test Events. Enter your Bumpa store's website address in the field provided.

  • Now, open your store in Chrome and act like a customer, click on a few product pages, add something to your cart, and go through checkout as if you were buying it (you don't have to complete an actual payment).

  • While you're doing this, keep an eye on two places: the TikTok Pixel Helper icon in your browser, and the Test Events tab on TikTok. You should see things like Page View, Add to Cart, and Initiate Checkout show up as you go through each action.

Note: This can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes for everything to fully show up on TikTok's side, so if you don't see it instantly, don't panic. Just give it a little time and check back.

Step 6: Add your payment details on TikTok Ads Manager

With your pixel confirmed and working, it's time to set up how you'll actually pay for your ads. In your TikTok Ads Manager, go to Payment and Billing.

Fill in your billing information: your country, state, city, street address, and postal code. Then choose how you'd like to fund your account, typically by adding your credit or debit card details.

Once this is done, you're fully ready to start creating your first campaign.

Step 7: Create your sales campaign

Setting up a TikTok sales campaign in Ads Manager

Go to the Campaign tab in TikTok Ads Manager and click Create.

When TikTok asks for your campaign objective, choose Sales. Then, when it asks where you want to drive sales, choose Website.

Give your campaign a name, something that makes sense to you, like "First Sales Campaign," and decide whether you want to set your budget at the campaign level or handle it later at the ad group level (we'll cover that next).

Step 8: Set up your ad group (targeting and budget)

First, name your ad group; something simple like "Broad Audience" works fine. Then, when asked to connect your website and pixel, select the TikTok Pixel you just set up.

Next, you'll be asked to choose your Optimization Event; this simply means "what action do you actually want TikTok to look for."

  • Choose Purchase, since that's the whole point; you want people who actually buy, not just people who click.

  • For your bidding strategy, choose Maximize Results because this tells TikTok to get you the most sales you can with the budget you’ve provided, and it's the safest, simplest option if you're just starting out.

  • Now, set your Daily Budget. This is simply how much you're comfortable spending per day, it could be ₦5,000, ₦10,000, or whatever fits your business right now. Set your schedule to Run continuously, so your ad keeps showing without you having to restart it manually.

Finally, set your Audience Targeting. Select the appropriate option for the location, age, gender, and other specific interests. If you're planning to run ads for a longer period, it's usually better to leave this broad and let TikTok find the right people over time.

Step 9: Create and publish your ad

A published TikTok ad with a Shop Now button

At the ad level, upload the video you want to use, or select an existing post from your connected TikTok account if you already have content that's performed well. If you're not sure what "performing well" looks like yet, here's how to increase engagement on your social pages.

Add your Bumpa store's website URL, this is where people will land after clicking your ad. For your Call-To-Action button, choose Shop Now, it's clear, direct, and tells people exactly what to do next.

If you'd like more control over how your video looks, you can turn off TikTok's automatic media enhancements, otherwise, it's fine to leave them on.

If you have more than one video you'd like to test, feel free to duplicate your ad and add different creative variations within the same ad group. This helps you see which video actually performs best.

Once you're happy with everything, review your settings one last time, and click Publish. Your ad is now live.

The bottom line

We specifically built TikTok Pixel on Bumpa to help you actually understand how your ads are performing, and to help you make better decisions with your money.

Now that you've gone through Step 1 all the way to the final step in this article, you should be able to set up your TikTok Pixel, launch your first campaign, and know exactly which ads are bringing in real customers, and which ones are just costing you money for nothing. Once your ads are working, the next step is making sure that traffic actually converts into sales on your store.
