Shopvams is a store in Lagos, Nigeria that sells beauty and skincare products online through social media or their Bumpa website. They also have a physical store at Unilag Rd, Yaba, a lively area in Lagos. Shopvams offers perfumes, skincare goods, sanitary items, antiperspirants, and well-known brand perfume oils. They also have their own line of products called Vams, including room sprays, home and car diffusers, and candles.

The first problem: Managing inventory across multiple channels

Selling a wide range of products means ShopVams has a lot of items to keep track of and organise. This is especially true for a business like theirs that serves both customers who visit the store and those who shop online. The founder, Anita Vams, understood the importance of tracking all products available to avoid:

  1. Double-selling of products online and in-store and causing inventory discrepancies.

  2. Running out of a product while it’s still listed online, leading to unhappy customers.

  3. Mismatched inventory counts between the online and physical stores due to manual mistakes.

  4. Difficulty in keeping track of inventory levels across the online and physical stores.

Anita needed a tool that could help her track her inventory accurately, make updating inventory easy and fast, manage the inflow and outflow of items, and provide valuable insights into inventory trends for her business.

How Anita discovered Bumpa

The second problem: Managing orders more effectively

In January, a video went viral on social media. This video was a review from a customer about the Aya sanitary pads. Overnight, the demand for the pads drastically increased, and Anita saw an opportunity to make the pads more available to her customers. She registered to become a supplier, put out the news on social media, and the orders started coming in.

And they were a lot!

And some of these orders weren’t for just the pads, but also some of the other items that the brand sells. Anita needed a robust order management system that would help her with processing these orders without:

  1. Mistakes in order entry, leading to incorrect items, quantities or shipping details.

  2. Collecting payments for out-of-stock items.

  3. Challenges with processing payments, such as declined or delayed transactions and payment gateway errors.

She also needed to be able to track the status of orders comfortably and make sure to not leave any customer’s order unattended as she was getting a lot of orders.

Lastly, inventory was automatically updated with each order on the website, making it easy for ShopVams to track inventory accurately.
